In search of freedom
Concert/lecture with writer and narrator Jan Brokken with stories about musicians and writers who all sought their own way to freedom.
In “In search of freedom” writer and narrator Jan Brokken reads from his own work in combination with the music of the BSQ. Brokken tells the stories of artists, musicians and writers who all sought their own way to freedom. Paths to freedom that demanded total surrender and the necessary sacrifices from the main characters in question. The stories blend seamlessly into the music played by the BSQ; music composed in times of oppression or banned by the political regime that prevailed.
Nowadays, living in a free country, the BSQ still feels the need to reflect on the importance of the theme of freedom. Art, culture and freedom of expression are the most important expressions of freedom. These pillars of a free society are often the first to be restrained in a totalitarian regime. It is precisely at this time that the BSQ wants to emphasize that freedom cannot be taken for granted.
Especially for this program Hawar Tawfiq (the Kurdish / Dutch composer who once made his way to the Netherlands) composed a new piece inspired by his own way to freedom.
