New Light on Goldberg Première Hermitage Amsterdam 8 Dec 2019, 16h
Director: Ria Marks
Light design: Jurjen Alkema
The Berlage Saxophone Quartet puts Bach’s Goldberg variations in a new light: in a new arrangement for saxophones and surrounded by a backdrop of luminous cubes, the BSQ breathes new life into this masterpiece. The saxophonists enter into a collaboration with light designer Jurjen Alkema (Blauwe uur) and stage director Ria Marks, responsible for the ¨mis-en-scène¨
Alto saxophonist and house arranger Peter Vigh, is responsible for a new, tailor-made arrangement, including eight saxophones, played by the four members of the quartet.
Vigh will also make his own composition that, as a prologue, brings the audience into the right mood for the total experience of music, light and image.
