The Roaring Twenties: a period of musical and cultural flourishing between two world wars. Glitter and glamour stand in stark contrast to looming danger—and to memories still freshly etched in the mind. It feels like a proverbial dance on the edge of a volcano, some 100 years ago, that bears an uncanny resemblance to our own time.
Feier/Fire
Together with singers Karin Strobos and Martijn Cornet, we present a selection of songs from this turbulent interwar period, at the crossroads of opera and revue: the era of emerging jazz, big bands, and, of course, the rise of the saxophone. Arranger Wijnand van Klaveren deploys the saxophone quartet as a big band, orchestra, and ‘bar piano’ all in one. Mensch, Feier!
“A festive event with an ominous edge, about an impending catastrophe and how we deal with it.”
