Agenda

Together with singers Martijn Cornet and Karin Strobos, we created a musical performance about how people deal with an approaching crisis. The starting point is music from the 1920s, composed and arranged for saxophone quartet and two voices by Wijnand van Klaveren. This period is part of a turning point in music history, where the saxophone made waves in both classical and popular music. The pieces we choose are meant to express a jovial atmosphere with a serious undertone, a very special characteristic of the time.

Harmonieorkest Vleuten bestaat in 2024 75 jaar. Vele spectaculaire jubileum activiteiten worden dit jaar gepland. Met het Seventy Five Saxophone Orchestra zal HOV voor een weekend nog een extra orkest hebben, namelijk HOV-S. Dit orkest zal bestaan uit alleen maar saxofoons. Van sopranino tot bas-saxofoon, alle saxofonisten van HOV, maar ook daarbuiten zijn welkom om mee te spelen dit super leuke saxofoonweekend.

Throwback Thursday? Wat denk je van Monumental Monday met Schuberts immense Octet – en dan ook nog met een bezetting om u tegen te zeggen? Schubert schreef zijn overweldigende werk voor de intieme muziekavonden waarmee de *happy few *zich begin 19e eeuw vermaakten. Opdrachtgever graaf Troyer had zelfs speciaal om een zusterwerk gevraagd voor Beethovens immens populaire Octet. Na de pauze klinkt dan Gershwins Rhapsody in Blue, waarmee de componist het gat tussen jazz en klassiek wilde overbruggen. De bewerking voor saxkwartet en piano is dan een mooie gelegenheid om een nieuwer werk voor die bezetting voor het eerst op Schier te spelen, Vighs Space Air Light Machine.

Spraakmakers is een reizende concertserie die klassieke muziek combineert met verhalen van nu. Spraakmakers verbindt de stem van bekende acteurs Ellen ten Damme, Soumaya Ahouaoui en Lars Brinkman met de muziek van Nederlandse topensembles. Samen smeden zij prikkelende verhalen over de wereld van vandaag en bijpassende klassieke muziekwerken tot één nieuwe vertelling. Tegelijkertijd verteld én gespeeld, als een theatraal muziekverhaal. De Vlaamse theatermaker Lucas De Man is flamboyant gastheer en het publiek tijdens een theatrale avond die vele verrassingen kent. In De weg naar binnen vertolkt acteur Lars Brinkman het verhaal van een eenzame katholiek gelovige die teruggaat naar de herinneringen aan zijn katholieke jeugd. Hij doet dit aan de hand van Fratres van Arvo Part, uitgevoerd door het Berlage Saxophone Quartet. Een verhaal over ontkenning, erkenning en verantwoording. Na jaren van bezinning en grondige zelfstudie introduceerde de Estse componist Arvo Pärt in de jaren tachtig zijn ‘tintinnabuli’, een nieuwe muziekstijl die hem wereldfaam zou brengen. They are connected by the music, the music that transcends the spirit of the times. What is the situation with the “humanity” for whom Berlage sketched a beautiful Pantheon in 1915, in the middle of the First World War, which unfortunately was never actually built?

De Vlaamse Theatermaker Lucas De Man speelt een katholieke gelovige die de ‘weg naar binnen’ moet gaan.
Daarbij past Arvo Pärt´s intense meesterwerkje Fratres.
Waarop de voorstelling omslaat in zijn tegendeel: een verhaal over onze pret-pep-zapmaatschappij, geïllustreerd met Gershwin’s blitse Rhapsody in blue.
